Yumm-Yumming

I have been threatening promising you that I would write about baby food. So here we go...I'll start sharing what we're cooking, eating and what the babes are yumm-yumming about!

Let's start by telling you what I use (that I didn't have in my kitchen before we started making baby food!)

- A Beaba Babycook...no you don't actually need one but I do love mine. However, I bought mine for a cool $50 used from a fellow twin mom that I found through Craigslist!. Gave it a good cleaning and it's like new!.

- Silicone ice cubes for freezing baby food.
- Freezer bags.
- Baby food containers (I also save glass jars and use these).

Everything else you'll use, you probably have in your kitchen already. If you don't have a Babycook...all you need is a pot, a steam basket and a food processor or hand blender (I use my hand blender daily!).

So now you're all ready to go....next question is...where do you get the produce?. Well, this is really a matter of personal preference...but probably 99.99% of the stuff I cook with is all organic...and when possible local organic. I also keep frozen organic veggie bags in my freezer for "emergencies".

I'm part of an organic buying club, so a lot of the produce comes from that. If you are interested in getting really fresh organic produce at a competitive price, check out organic buying clubs in your area!. It really is worth every cent.

Ok, you've got the stuff and you have the stuff to cook the stuff...now let's get to cooking!

There are basic steps to making baby food:

- Chopping
- Cooking (unless feeding raw, such as bananas, avocados etc). Cooking will come in many ways: simmering, steaming, roasting and sautéing!
- Pureeing
- Storing
- Yumm-yumming!

So there we go folks, that's the basics...look for new recipes, pictures, wins and loses.

I will judge how good the recipe is based on the yumm-yumming factor I get from the babies. They literally "yumm-yumm" in between every bite. The louder the "yumm", the better the recipe!. Fewer "yumms"...thumbs down (although they still eat it because let's face it, they haven't met a solid food they don't eat!)

Next up...
(Apricot and Blueberry oatmeal)
